It's all about the Light!

Do you know the difference between incandescent , halogen, or florescent?

Incandescent is the bulbs you are probably more familiar with. They are the bulbs your parents put in when you were little and the bulbs you probably put in now in you chandeliers and fixtures in the bathrooms. Well, you have right now, about two and a half years left to purchase these lamps. In the year 2012 they will stop manufacturing the 100 watt and the 60 Watt bulb. In the year 2013 they will stop making the 40 watt bulb, and in the year 2014 they will not be manufacturing incandescent bulbs no longer. After 2014 you only be able to purchase halogen and florescent.

Personally I have halogen in my house and they have lasted right around 3 years per lamp. I have installed halogen lamps in recessed can lights and outside fixtures. There are many different kinds of halogen lamps. Some look like the incandescent bulbs and others look like the exterior flood lamps. People have there preferences and now is the time to start looking.

One problem I have with florescent is the disposal issue. Did you know that in order for a florescent lamp to operate they have to have mercury in them. So basically in order to properly dispose of these florescent lamps you are supposed to take them to a proper disposal company, not in the garbage. It's all about going green yet let's keep putting the mercury in the environment.

This is a little bit of info. for the future.
